Stock photo description

One of the commoner ferns of the region, the lanceolate, rather leathery leaves appearing in May, their pinnae fairly blunt and mostly more or less equal in length, the lowest pair usually not projecting forward, so that the base of the leaf appears more or less rectangular.
Spore-cases roundish, spores ripe August-March.
Habitat: Preferring acid soils.
Distribution: Western Europe
The Roots are used as Herbal Medicine.

In the Summer of 2012 I was for a Trip in the Northern Part of Ireland to photographing Nature & Landscapes.
