This is a portrait engraving of King Edward VI of England (1537 - 1553). Crowned at the age of nine, he died aged 15, so England was ruled by a Regency Council. From: The History of England from the Earliest Period to the Present Time by David Hume and William Cooke Stafford, c. 1866, London Printing & Publishing Company Ltd.

Edward was of the Protestant faith, and when he fell ill the Regency Council drew up a list of successors, to exclude Edward's Catholic half-sisters Mary and Elizabeth. It made his cousin, Lady Jane Grey, the next in line, but she was Queen only for nine days.

(The use of the long s in the middle caption, which looks like an f, shows that this engraving was done in around 1805 at the latest. The long s was in use from around the year 200 AD.)
