Description

'This vintage engraving depicts the portrait of Grand Duke Constantine Nikolayevich (1827 - 1892), second son of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia, circa 1850s. During the reign of his brother, Alexander II, he served as Admiral in the Russian Navy, and is pictured in his Admiral's uniform here. He also later served as Viceroy of Poland. Likely his most lasting claim to fame is as great- great- grandfather to Charles, Prince of Wales. Engraved by D.J. Pound (died 1877), it was published in an 1859 history of the Russian Empire and is now in the public domain. Digital restoration by Steven Wynn Photography.'
