Description
A Bedouin warrior in the Hauran (also spelt Hawran or Houran). The Hauran is an area and a people in south-western Syria, extending into the north-western corner of modern-day Jordan.

The Arabian camel (dromedary, a camel with one hump) is the common beast of burden in Arab countries. The single hump distinguishes the desert-loving dromedary from the two-humped Bactrian camel, which lives on the high plains of the far east.

The image is a JPEG containing smoothed black lines on white.

Source: The engraving is in the public domain. Originally published in Picturesque Palestine, Sinai and Egypt, edited by Charles Wilson and published in four volumes in 1881.
