Description

Armada Emperor Charles V (1500 – 1558), when attempting the conquest of Algiers on 22 October 1541. Bad weather prevented the plan. Exact replica of the title page and first text page from "Newen Zeytung" (Newspapers), probably printed in 1542. The "Newen Zeytung" are considered the forerunners of the modern newspaper. The first edition appeared already in 1502. Woodcut from my archive, published in 1881.
