Italian poet Francesco Petrarch, (1304 - 1374), who was educated at Bologna, traveled in France, Flanders and Rheinland, and was crowned Poet Laureate in Rome in 1341. His works include 'Rime', a collection of Italian sonnets and odes, the allegory 'I trionfi', and in Latin, the epic 'Africa', as well as many treatises, letters and orations. Pictured circa 1340.
