In a Greek legend Daedalus and his son Icarus are imprisoned by King Minos on the island Crete.
In an attemt to escape Daedalus builds two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers.
Before they take off from the island, Daedalus warns his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea.
In his enthusiasm Icarus becomes reckless and flies too close to the sun, which melted the wax.
And so, Icarus fell into the sea in the area which bears his name, the Icarian Sea near Icaria, an island southwest of Samos
