Description

Circa 1730, English General James Edward Oglethorpe (1689 - 1785), who received a charter in 1732 to use English prisoners as colonial labourers in Georgia. He administered the colony from 1733 to 1734, founding the city of Savannah before surrendering the Georgia charter to the Crown in 1752.
