King Otto III and his mother Empress Theophano. Otto III (980 – 1002) came from the Ottonian dynasty and was the fourth ruler of the Saxons. He was Roman German king from 983 and emperor from 996 to 1002. After the death of his father Otto II, he was already elected a three-year-old King of the Germans. During his minority ruled the kingdom his mother Empress Theophano (c. 955/60 – 991). Lithograph after the golden cover (detail) of an Evangeliary, which was donated by Otto and Theopano to the monastery Epternach from my archive, published in 1880.
