Paternoster Row in the City of London, England. The street, which had previously been the at the centre of London’s publishing industry, was destroyed by bombing during World War II and has been replaced by Paternoster Square. This woodcut shows people reading pamphlets and carrying paper or books. From “Pleasant Hours: A Monthly Journal of Home Reading and Sunday Teaching; Volume III” published the Church of England’s National Society’s Depository, London, in 1863.
