Famed Confederate General James Ewell Brown ("Jeb") Stuart (1833 - 1864) is portrayed in this vintage engraving from 1864. He was a commander of the cavalry, and led troops in the battle at Gettysburg. He was killed at the Battle of Yellow Tavern by forces of Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan. It was engraved by R. H. Ritchie and published in 1864 in a Gallery of the Civil War, and is now in the public domain.
