Description

The South Porch of Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucester, England. Also known as the Cathedral Church of St Peter and the Holy and Indivisible Trinity and famous as a location in the Harry Potter films, the cathedral originates from around 678AD when an abbey was founded there. The present building was started in the 11th century and was considerably modified in the 19th century by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The South Porch is of the Perpendicular Style of the 14th century. Illustration from "Picturesque Europe - The British Isles" published by Cassell Petter & Galpin in 1875 (price 2/6d).
