Description
In the church of San Zeno in Verona is illustrated on a bas-relief in addition to the main entrance to a scene that Theodoric not like all mortals had died, but was riding a black horse in a volcano and the survivors still appear. Theodoric the Great (454 – 526, also Dietrich von Bern) was king of the Ostrogoths (471 – 526), ruler of Italy (493 – 526), regent of the Visigoths (511 – 526), and a viceroy of the Eastern Roman Empire. Woodcut from my archive, published in 1880.
