18th June 1881: Champion jockey in England for 13 successive years, Fred Archer (1857 - 1886) riding Iroquois on which he won the 1881 Derby. Archer committed suicide at the age of 29 . His natural weight was 11 stone and he dieted to loose and keep off 3 stone the strain of which partly contributed to his death. Original Publication: The Graphic - pub.
