This vintage engraving depicts a view of the ancient, holy city of Al Madinah in Saudi Arabia, and burial place of the Islamic prophet Muhammad (also spelled Medina). Engraved by H. B. Hall after the drawing of Richard Francis Burton (1821 - 1890), who traveled in disguise to Mecca in the 19th century. Published in an 1868 history of Islam, it is now in the public domain.
