Although it has not been official, something amazing has been happening on the site lately - we have been replacing thumbnails! Now we are making it official. You can go ahead and replace thumbs that poorly represent their corresponding video files.
You need to follow these rules:
1 Must be .jpg and be minimum 380 pixels wide.
2 Must be the same aspect ratio as the video.
3 It must be an actual frame of the video, without additional layers or text.
Many files have black thumbnails or white thumbs. This is because if you have not uploaded a thumb with your original file, we build the thumb from the first frame of the file. We believe that you will experience better downloads if you take the time to select a frame that best represents the content of the video file.
You can replace the thumbnail through the file_edit_closeup page. NOTE: The file replacement only takes a short while to process, however due to the way these files are cached, it may be several days before you see the results.
More Happy Days Coming!
We are also very close to a fix on a related (and even more significant) problem - video file replacement. In fact we have been replacing some on a test basis, but still have a couple of minor things to sort out before we line up a bunch and hit "GO". This function will only be available to admins, as it was originally (some of you old-timers may remember those days).
Also on the near horizon is a change to our FTP uploading process that will include the ability to upload multiple formats and keywords among other improvements. We will let you know more about that as the date gets closer.
Of course, if these things are not enough to get at least the corners of your mouth tilted to a hint of a smile, then consider this: Video downloads have been ROCKING lately!
