Hoverfly and bee collecting nectar from yellow ragwort flowers. Hoverflies (syrphid flies) and bees are both important to agriculture and gardeners as pollinators. Ragwort is a poisonous weed which is widespread in the UK and is dangerous to cattle and horses if it finds its way in to their feed. The Ragwort Control Act 2003 (which amends the Weeds Act 1959), imposes a duty of responsibility on landowners to effectively control ragwort (Senecio jacobaea), preventing its spread onto grazing land. This video has been shot at 50 fps but is played at normal speed (25fps) to slow the motion.
