Blood is a bodily fluid in animals that delivers necessary substances such as nutrients and oxygen to the cells and transports metabolic waste products away from those same cells.

The essential components of the human cardiovascular system are the heart, blood and blood vessels. It includes the pulmonary circulation, a "loop" through the lungs where blood is oxygenated; and the systemic circulation, a "loop" through the rest of the body to provide oxygenated blood.

The circulatory system consists of three independent systems that work together: the heart (cardiovascular), lungs (pulmonary), and arteries, veins, coronary and portal vessels (systemic). The system is responsible for the flow of blood, nutrients, oxygen and other gases, and as well as hormones to and from cells

Pitting edema is a medical condition characterized by the accumulation of excess fluid in the interstitial spaces, leading to swelling that is often noticeable in the skin. One of the defining features of pitting edema is the ability to produce an indentation, or "pit," when pressure is applied to the swollen area. This occurs due to the displacement of fluids, allowing for a temporary impression that persists for a variable amount of time.
