Description

Close up of the topside of humpback whale's fluke with barnacles hanging from the tip. The muscle that powers this tail is the largest & strongest in the animal kingdom. The fluke is about 15 feet across with animal about 50 feet in length weighing close to 100,000 pounds. Humpbacks migrate between Alaska where they feed in the summer & Hawaii where they mate & give birth in the winter. Whale was photographed in Frederick Sound Alaska.
