Palma de Mallorca, Spain - April 11, 2016: the historic core of Palma de Mallorca, the largest city on the island of Mallorca. The cathedral (right hand side of image), La Seu, was built between 1229 and 1601 on the site of a muslim mosque (which Juame I's military forces destroyed when they took control of the island from the Moors in 1229). The cathedral is Gothic in style. The royal palace (left-hand side of the cathedral) is the Royal Palace of La Almudaina. It was constructed before the cathedral by the Moors as a fort, and so retains elements of Islamic architecture, blended with the Gothic styling of later Christian additions.
