Belfast, Northern Ireland - May 29, 2018: The facade of the Ulster Hall. a concert hall. The Ulster Hall is one of the oldest purpose-built concert halls in the British Isles. Opened on 12 May 1862, the hall has weathered political upheaval, the Belfast Blitz, threats of demolition, jiving American soldiers, pogo-ing punks and over 30 years of sectarian conflict. It was designed by William J Barre. It has hosted writers, musicians and politicians, such as Charles Dickens, Mick Jagger and Ian Paisley. It is fondly known locally as the Grand Dame of Bedford Street.
