A Victorian father returning home and being greeted by his children on Christmas Eve. From “The Queen - an Illustrated Journal & Review - Christmas Number” from December 1861. The newspaper was published in London and was aimed at mainly upper class people who would attend court functions and society events.

From aEThe Boyaas Own Paperaa 1879-80, a British newspaper for boys which was at that time published by the Religious Tract Society and which featured stories, heroic deeds, facts, educational items and illustrations."

A frame of Art Nouveau-style leaves, flowers and tendrils on a mottled cream background, with copy space. Within the copy space area is an illustration of villagers dancing around a Maypole to celebrate May Day and springtime. Jane Squibb, is remembered for being commemorated in The Annals of the Poor by the Rev. Leigh Richmond, curate of Brading church between 1797 to 1805, She died of tuberculosis, aged 15, on 30 January 1799
