After rescuing the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, God (Yahweh) commanded that they should build the Tabernacle and Court in the Wilderness. It was portable and was used for around four centuries, representing the House of God where He might live amongst his people, the Israelites. The Court separated the House of God and the houses of the people, with the Levites camping outside on three sides and the Priests on the East side, before the gate.
