A singing red-breasted robin sitting on a twig, being watched by a brown rabbit sitting in the snow. From “The Graphic Christmas Number 1883”, a supplement produced for Christmas 1883 to “The Graphic”, a British weekly illustrated paper first published by Illustrated Newspaper Ltd in 1869. The publication employed many notable artists and writers of the day.

The grammar used for the message is very strange which might account for Santa’s glazed expression - that or wondering why he has a goat pulling his sleigh and it’s New Year, not Christmas! A handwritten note on the reverse gives the date as 1885.
