Beautiful specimen of lizard photographed in its natural state in the backyard of my house in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil at 11/11/2013. The Tupinambis reptile genus, from the Teiidae family, is popularly known as teiú, lagartiu, teju, tegu, jacuraru, jacuaru, jacuruaru, jacruaru and caruaru. It includes the largest New World lizards (up to 2 meters long) and covers seven species, all native to South America. Onivorous, they feed on captive egg yolks, meats, mice, chicks, frogs, Fruits, vegetables, etc. They may be aggressive animals, which is why management care is important to avoid biting. Ovíparos, average 30 eggs, which are incubated for a period of 90 days.
