Uxmal, Mexico, May 30 - Through the ancient Mayan city of Uxmal, 80 km from Merida, capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan. Proclaimed a World Heritage Site in 1996, Uxmal was founded in the 6th century AD by the Puuc civilization and became one of the major centers of worship in the region. Immersed in the Yucatan rain forest and symbol of Mayan culture, Uxmal was discovered in 1838 by the French archaeologist Jean Frederic Waldeck.
