Description
An adult Pinyon Jay (Gymnorhinus cyanocephalus) at a feeding station in central Oregon. The Pinyon Jay is an odd, crow-like jay that travels about in nomadic flocks of up to 250 birds in response to the availability of its primary food, the seeds of various pinyon pines. They also consume berries and other seeds. The Pinyon Jay has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List because of extensive conversion of pinyon-juniper habitat to grazing land.
