Description
Coral reefs are the one of earths most complex ecosystems, containing over 800 species of corals and one million animal and plant species. 75% of the worlds coral reefs are now classed as 'Threatened,' with 60% of most reefs having local damage from anchors, overfishing, coral bleaching, disease and pollution. As a result, many artificial reefs have been created around the world in an attempt to replenish the devastated ecosystems. Here we see several concrete blocks resembling Pyramids. They have been deliberately sunk and are now attracting ocean life and have created their own mini ecosystems. The water is booming with Plankton, known as a Red Tide. The location is The Pyramids dive site, Java Sea, Amed, Bali, Indonesia.
