Medium to tall. Leaves 4-8, the lower oblong to broad-lanceolate, the upper narrow-lanceolate, bluish-green, all with rather irregular dark brownish-black spots (sometimes absent). Bracts and upper stem often purplish, bracts generally longer than the flowers. Flowers purplish-lilac to deep reddish-purple, the lip with darker dotted or lined loop markings; lateral sepals spreading upwards like a pair of dove wings, the upper sepal and petals forming a hood; lip 9-10mm, 3-lobed, the central lobe without marks; spur shorter than the ovary.
