Where it can find open ground, you will see mound upon mound of pink / purple rosebay willowherb. These flowers form licks of flame in large patches of tall, purple / pink flowers, often on waste land. Their early appearance on blackened bomb sites and burnt woodlands led to the name 'fireweed'. An alternative name is blooming sally.
