Spores of the fungus Chaetomium stained with acid fuchsin to colour them deep red. This fungus is a very common cellulose decomposer resulting in rotting of many natural products. The image was recorded with a microscope fitted with differential interference contrast, which provides high degree of contrast at maximum aperture resulting in maximum resolution.
