This impressive bronze is at the north entrance of the cathedral and is a near perfect replica of the twelfth century original which can be seen in the Treasury Museum. It represents the ancient privelege of sanctuary once granted to criminal offenders at Durham cathedral. Criminals could seek refuge at Durham by using the knocker. They would confess the details of his crime before a coroner and was allowed to remain inside the cathedral for a period of thirty seven days. Subtle desaturated HDR image with a shallow depth of field and a ProPhoto RGB profile for maximum color fidelity and gamut. Space for copy and text.
