Description

View of the Hole of Horcum which is a natural depression caused by retreating ice during the last Ice Age. The photograph was taken one early frosty morning in autumn. The Hole of Horcum is situated between the villages of Levisham and Goathland, both in the heart of the North York Moors. The rich autumnal colours are reflected in the ferns and heather, the latter still in bloom. The frost can be seen too. The early morning sun is reflected on the top of the depression.
