"In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy the Battery Park Underpass is seen completely flooded along the West Street entrance looking south in Lower Manhattan.This section of West Street, just a short distance from the Hudson River and New York Harbor was flooded during Hurricane Sandy as surging water inundated the Manhattan Financial District. At this location the height of flood water reached nearly 5ft (1.5 meters) flooding office building basements and the Battery Park Underpass automobile tunnel seen in this image. The water level in the tunnel itself is nearly 20ft (6 meters) deep. The area has no electrical power and has been part of a mandatory evacuation plan for Lower Manhattan.
