Description
Outdoor Polish model holding together two burdock seeds. The two seed balls (burrs) are covered with hooks whose clinging characteristic led to the invention of Velcro by George de Mestral. The Latin name for burdock, Arctium, derives from the Greek arctos, a bear, a reference to the furry texture of the burrs. Other common names include common burdock, wild rhubarb, clothbur, beggar's buttons and gypsy's rhubarb. This photograph is taken with a long-focus lens that throws the background completely out of focus, giving an effect known as 'bokeh'.
