Description
A close-up photograph of a lark sparrow, or Chondestes grammacus, a large American sparrow, facing right and holding a small seed at the tip of its beak. The lark sparrow, or Passer domesticus, is in the winter grass and has a lovely catchlight of the setting sun in its eye. The field marks are distinctive and striking. Its plumage is a high contrast of white, black, rust, tan, gray and brown. This bird is an uncommon visitor to the East Coast of North America where is was spotted in Massachusetts.
