An iconic desert tree, the Palo Verde has adapted to the harshest of conditions of high heat and extreme dryness. This tree is in the Sonoran desert in southwest Arizona in late November. The trunk and stems are green to help with photosynthesis, hence the name palo verde, which translates to 'green pole' or 'green stick'. Parkinsonia aculeata.
