Saint Mary Lake, on the east side of the Continental Divide, is the second largest lake in Glacier National Park. This lake marks a meeting point between the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains, providing some great mountain vistas from its shores. Abruptly rising from the west end of the lake are Little Chief, Gunsight and Fusillade Mountains. In the middle of the lake is tiny Wild Goose Island providing an iconic view that was featured in the opening credits of the movie “The Shining”. This scene of Saint Mary Lake and Wild Goose Island was photographed from the Wild Goose Island Overlook on the Going to the Sun Road near Babb, Montana, USA.
