Taukkyan, Myanmar - February 27, 2011: Graves of young British soldiers who died fighting in the Second World War, in the War cemetary in Taukkyan. In the background the memorial pillars are visible. The Taukkyan war cemetary, the largest of three war cemeteries in Burma, was started in the year 1951 to protect and maintain graves from other battlefield cemeteries which could not be accessed or maintained. Over the years graves from all over Myanmar were recovered and relocated here. Today the cemetary contains 6374 graves of commonwealth soldiers (known and unknown) and memorials for thousands of others whose graves could not be found.
