Trælanípa and Lake Leitisvatn, Vágar, Faroe Islands: Trælanípa (Slave Mountain) is a perpendicular rock wall, which juts 142 metres upwards out of the sea. It’s said that it has got its name from the Viking Age when slaves were pushed off the mountain. Lake Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. The lake has also been named “the lake over the ocean” as the view from Trælanípan from a particular angle functions as an optical illusion, appearing to look as though the lake is hovering directly above the ocean. At the end of the lake is the impressive Bøsdalafossur waterfall. Bøsdalafossur is a 30m high waterfall flowing directly into the Atlantic Ocean.
