Stunning view of Lake Abiquiú and the Jemez Mountain range from a rustic log cabin built for the 1991 film, City Slickers. Situated on the grounds of Ghost Ranch, Georgia O'Keeffe's studio and summer home, near the village of Abiquiú in Rio Arriba County, north central New Mexico. Today Ghost Ranch is an Education & Retreat Center.
Cerro Pedernal is a narrow mesa in Northern New Mexico. Locally known as "Pedernal", the mesa lies on the north flank of the Jemez Mountains, south of Abiquiú Lake, in the Coyote Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest. Its highest point is 9,862 feet (3,006 meters). The Pedernal Mountain inspired and moved Georgia O'Keeffe as she painted and studied from her studio. When she died at the age of 98 on March 6, 1986, her ashes were scattered on top of the mountain that she loved so much.
As the title suggests, this shot features Chimney Rock, Lake Abiquiu, and the Pedernal. The vantage point is a mesa top at the New Mexico's famed Ghost Ranch, and this is the type of view that Georgia O'Keefe doubtless admired many times, as she was a long-time resident artist here and loved to paint the Pedernal from this mesa, overlooking the red hills of the Rio Chama basin. This is a late evening shot in horizontal orientation.
