Funkstown, Maryland, USA -- July 15, 2011: Confederate American Civil War Reenactors recreating the action of a street battle against Union troops during the Civil War. Two Confederate cavalry officers ride their horses up the street prior to the battle carrying the Confederate flag. This war left its devastation on the town of Funkstown Maryland when, on Robert E. Lee’s retreat from Gettysburg, a battle by Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart against Union General John Buford was fought on the east edge of town. The main engagement of July 10, 1863, resulted in 479 Federal troops being killed or wounded. The battle of Funkstown is recreated each year by both Union and Confederate reenactors in period outfits using weapons of the time.

Vintage colour lithograph of The Royal Horse Guards , a squadron leader halting his men after a charge. The Royal Horse Guards (RHG) was a cavalry regiment of the British Army, part of the Household Cavalry. Founded August 1650 in Newcastle upon Tyne by Sir Arthur Haselrig on the orders of Oliver Cromwell as the Regiment of Cuirassiers.
