Zipaquira, Colombia: Looking Into The Barrel Vault At The New Catedral De Sal, Located In The Old Halite Mines, A Few Hundred Feet Below The Surface On The Andes Mountains The interior of the Catedral de Sal, or the Salt Cathedral in Zipaquirá, located about 49 kilometres north of the capital city of Bogota, at an altitude of 2652 metres above sea level on the Andes, in the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia, South America. The new Cathedral, located several hundred feet below the surface of the earth, in an old Halite salt mine, has been built about 200 feet below the older one. It was completed in 1995. Lit by LED lights which continuously change colour, the church is a popular tourist and pilgrimage destination. The cross behind the main altar is said to be the largest 'indoor' cross in the world. Mahabalipuram, India: 1300 Year Old Pancha Rathas, sculpted in Granite Image shows the Arjuna and Draupadi Rathas of the Pancha Rathas (also known as Pandava Rathas), a monument complex at Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram, on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Dating from the late 7th century, it is attributed to the reigns of King Mahendravarman I and his son Narasimhavarman I (630–680 AD) of the Pallava Kingdom. The Arjuna Ratha is the monument in the centre, Nandi, the bull, can be seen to the right. To the left is a section of the Bhima Ratha and behind the Arjuna Ratha, is the Draupadi Ratha.The structures are without any precedence in Indian temple architecture and are carved out of a single granite rock each. Remarkably well preserved for monuments that are over 1300 years old; they withstood the ravages of the Tsunamis of the 13th Century and 2004. They however display the effects of wind and sand erosion of over a thousand three hundred years. These are not temples as they are unfinished, and were never consecrated. Only about about 15 inches can be woven in a whole day; it takes between 15 to 20 days to weave a whole Sari. Each Sari is unique and the design is hardly ever repeated. The gold you see in the Sari is real gold, woven into the sari as gold thread. This is a centuries old craft, that flourishes in this one town in the whole of India. Founded in 1572 and located at just over 7000 feet above mean sea level on the Andes Mountains, Villa de Leyva was declared a National Monument by the Colombian Government in 1954 to protect its colonial architecture and heritage. Bogotá, Colombia - People Walk Through The Narrow, Colorful, Cobblestoned Calle del Embudo In The Historic La Candelaria District Bogota, Colombia - July 20, 2016: Some local Colombian people walk down the narrow, cobblestoned, Carrera Segunda, in the historic district of La Candelaria, in the Andean capital city of Bogota, Colombia, in South America. The City was founded in the 16th Century in this area, by the Spanish Conquistador, Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. Many walls in this area are painted with either street art, or legends of the pre Colombian era, in the vibrant colours of Latin America. The wall of a shop on the right is an example of such murals. It has rained a little and the Carrera is wet; the overcast sky promises more rain. 20th July is National Day in Colombia and the country's flag is flown on many buildings. Lit by LED lights which continuously change colour; the church is a popular tourist and pilgrimage destination. The cross behind the main altar is said to be the largest 'indoor' cross in the world.
