Vintage illustration features the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. The battles were fought on April 19, 1775 within the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy (present-day Arlington), and Cambridge. Atrocities of the Spaniards on Santo Domingo. Under the encomienda system introduced in 1503, which obliged the indigenous people to do forced labor, they suffered greatly. In addition to the inhumane working conditions in slave labor and the persecution of refugees, many of the locals also died from epidemics brought in from Europe and Africa, against which they had no resistance.
