Lilium lancifolium, commonly called “tiger lily”, is a species of lily, native to East Asia including Japan and China. It is in flower from mid to late summer (July to September). It bears bright and showy, orange-colored flowers covered with black or deep crimson spots, giving the appearance of the skin of tiger, hence its common name. Each flower consists of 6 strongly curved tepals, forming a funnel form corolla that is turned inside out, 6 strongly exerted stamens, a strongly exerted style with a tripartite stigma, and an ovary. The style and filaments of the stamens are whitish orange and filiform. The anthers are long, narrow, and dark-colored; their pollen is rust-colored.
Native to Tanegashima Island of Japan, Taiwan and southern China, Mussaenda parviflora is an evergreen shrub in the Rubiaceae family (the Madder family). The flowers are small, yellow and tubular, and bloom from July to September in corymbs-like clusters. Each flower has a large white leaf-like sepal (bract).
Salvia leucantha, commonly called Mexican bush sage, is an evergreen perennial that is native to Central America and Mexico. It is grown as an annual in average. This sage is noted for producing a very attractive late summer to autumn bloom of showy bi-color flowers consisting of white corollas and longer-lasting purple calyxes. Flowers appear in dense, arching, terminal spikes.
