One disposable Plastic cup floats in the Ocean. Seemingly harmless it represents the massive environmental issue that is Global Ocean Pollution. Plastic in the Ocean is one of the largest threats to our ocean ecosystems with over 12 million tonnes dumped in the sea every year. Discarded, abandoned or obsolete items which become dangerous garbage are responsible for the deaths of huge amounts of Marine Life every year through entanglement and consumption. Underwater image obtained whilst scuba diving at Ko Haa, Andaman sea, Krabi Province, Thailand, Southeast Asia. I removed the plastic afterwards.
Human activity since the Industrial Revolution has increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, leading to increased radiative forcing from CO2, methane, tropospheric ozone, CFCs and nitrous oxide. The concentrations of CO2 and methane have increased by 36% and 148% respectively since 1750. These levels are much higher than at any time during the last 650,000 years, the period for which reliable data has been extracted from ice cores. Less direct geological evidence indicates that CO2 values higher than this were last seen about 20 million years ago. Fossil fuel burning has produced about three-quarters of the increase in CO2 from human activity over the past 20 years. (From Wikipedia).
A discarded fishing creel or trap is polluting this otherwise clear ocean. Trapped within are squid eggs and small creatures. This represents the massive environmental disaster that is Global Ocean Pollution and ‘Ghost Nets’. Ghost nets or Ghost Gear is one of the largest threats to our ocean ecosystems responsible for the deaths of huge amounts of Marine Life through entanglement and consumption. Nearby two scuba divers are swimming beneath the water’s surface. Location is Ko Haa, Andaman Sea, Krabi province, Thailand.
Ko Haa, Andaman Sea, Krabi province, Thailand - February 8, 2019: One Coca-Cola Coke drink can lies at the bottom of the Ocean. Seemingly harmless it represents the massive environmental ecocide issue that is Global Ocean Pollution. Garbage in the Ocean is one of the largest threats to our ocean ecosystems with over 12 million tonnes dumped in the sea every year. Discarded, abandoned or obsolete items which are responsible for the deaths of huge amounts of Marine Life every year through entanglement and consumption. The location here is Ko Haa Islands, Krabi, Thailand. After taking the image I removed the pollution.
