"Beddgelert,North Wales - April 2, 2011: A double Fairlie Steam Loco named Merddin Emrys at Beddgelert Station, Welsh Highland Railway. This is the first time the Double Fairlies have run on Welsh Highland track, they normally operate on the Ffestiniog route. Due to the gradients on the Welsh Highland two double Fairlies where coupled together for the run.The Double Fairlie loco has a single large boiler and two fireboxes powering both sets of bogies which can swivel to allow it to negotiate tight bends.The ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Narrow Gauge Railways used to transport Slate from the Welsh Mines and quarries to the ports of Caernarfon and Porthmadog Now linked togetherthe 40 mile heritage line runs through the heart of the Snowdonia National Park."
