Oberhausen, Germany - July 19, 2009: \"Gasometer Oberhausen\" is an industrial monument. It has been used as a gasholder between 1929 and 1988. Today it belongs to the European Route of Industrial Heritage and serves as an exhibition hall. When the photo was taken the Gasometer hosted an exhibition called \"Out of this World - Wonders of the Solar System\".
"The Gasometers in Vienna are four former gas tanks, built in 1896aa1899 and used till 1984. With the changeover of the city to the natural gas, they were no longer used and were shut down. Only the brick exterior front walls were preserved and today the structures have found a new use, with about 800 apartments, a music hall, movie theatre, shops, cafes, and so on. It has became a sort of city within a city. Vienna, Austria."

The gasometer is located in the heart of industrial Rome, in the Ostiense area. In summer, just below this gigantic steel structure of 92 meters, the Roman night lights up with shows, theater, dance, food and wine and discos. The Turkish director Ferzan Ozpetek, very attached to this neighborhood, shot the film "The Ignorant Fairies".
