Downtown Las Cruces, New Mexico, has spacious sidewalks made of modular concrete pavers, vintage bollards (short vertical green posts), strategically placed planters, green iron benches and trash receptacles. Strategically placed canopies built of precast colored and patterned concrete columns and beams with native stone bases provide much needed shade on hot summer days. The shade is provided by a metal framework with metal “latillas.”

The Basilica of San Albino, one of the oldest churches in the region, has the distinction of being originally established in Mexico and is now located in the United States as a result of the transfer of territory in the 1854 Gadsden Purchase. Alamogordo, New Mexico, USA - August 8, 2017: Visitors at White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico wait to see the full moon rising in early August of 2017. The monument stays open during full moon nights to provide views of the moon reflecting off the white sands. Musicians also sometimes perform during full moon programs at the monument, which is 16 miles southwest of Alamogordo, New Mexico. The attraction has 275 square miles of desert sand, making it the largest expanse of gypsum sand dunes in the world.

State-owned Spaceport America 45 miles north of Las Cruces, New Mexico hosts events such as rocket launches, including competitions featuring designs from college students. New Mexico officials built the facility in 2011 in hopes of attracting private and public space launch ventures. Many launches at the site are open to the public. The nearest community is Truth or Consequences.
