Possibly the oldest living tree east of the Rockies The Angel Oak is a live oak tree aged approximately 1,500 years on John's Island outside Charleston, South Carolina.
The oak tree is located in Hampton Virginia, outside the Hampton University campus. In 1863 it was under this tree that Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was read to the black community. The tree was later named Emancipation Oak.
